Failures of hoses caused by damages
The failure of hoses as a result of damage, incorrect usage or poor maintenance
Visible damage
A burst in the hose wall as shown in the drawing. The burst follows the braiding direction of the reinforcement inlays.
Cause
- The hose has been exposed to a too high working pressure or shock pressures for a protracted period.
- The hose is damaged from outside whereby the inlays are damaged.
Remedy
- Check the maximum occurring working pressure and any possible shock pressures. If necessary fit a hose with a higher working pressure.
- Protect the hose against damage from outside.
Visible damage
The hose is damaged on the inside at the coupling.
Cause
During assembly the coupling was pressed out of square into the hose, or a burr on the tailpiece has damaged the inside wall.
Remedy
Replace the hose and fit the coupling with care. Remove burrs and sharp sides on the tailpiece.
Visible damage
Blister formation on the outside wall of the hose.
Cause
Damage of the inside wall (usually by the coupling tailpiece) so the medium comes under pressure between the inside and outside wall. The blister originates in the weakest place in the outside wall and can as a result occur at some distance from the actual damage.
Remedy
Replace the hose and fit the couplings with care. Remove burrs and sharp sides on the tailpiece.
Visible damage
Profile of the tailpiece sharply cut into the inside wall and too strong marking by the hose clip. The inside or outside wall of the hose is often cut to the inlays.
Cause
- Tailpiece with a too large diameter or incorrect profile used.
- Hose clip to tight.
Remedy
- Fit a suitable tailpiece with a good (not too sharp) profile.
- Fit the hose clip correctly. Use two or more hose clips depending on the length of the tailpiece.
Visible damage
Cracks in the outside wall of the hose where the hose bends. The rubber material is hard and breakable.
Cause
The hose has transported too hot media or has been exposed to a too high ambient temperature.
Remedy
Use this manual to choose a hose suitable for feeding the hot medium.
With a too high ambient temperature insulate the hose exterior.
Visible damage
Deep tears and cracks in the inside and outside wall of the hose.
In some places pieces of rubber have broken off the hose.
Cause
The hose has been exposed to extremely low temperatures.
Remedy
Use this manual to choose a hose suitable for low temperatures.
